Fraser Island trip, Oct-07 map2
Fraser Island is getting loved to death, with
too many visitors during the X-Mas and
Easter breaks. Many inland tracks are still
two way, and quite narrow, making it very
difficult to pass other vehicles, when there
are many vehicles following each other.
There are passing bays, but when vehicles
are queued up, some may have to do a lot
of difficult reversing, in narrow tracks with
sides of the 4WD very close to track sides.
No problems driving on the Beaches.
We usually try and avoid X-Mas, Easter and
school holidays, but still find some problems.
The island is only a short hop from home at
Tewantin, having to cross the Noosa River
then follow the Beaches to the Inskip ferry.
It is best to lower your tyre pressures to
20-25 psi as soon as you hit the beach, as
it causes congestion if you need to lower
pressures, after you get bogged.
Usually, we would visit the island when we
have visitors from Interstate or overseas
& then make it a camping holiday. This time
we decided to go alone and stay at Eurong
resort as Yollie was recovering from an
illness which had caused a cancellation of an
overseas trip. It is very pleasant to camp out
on the sand dunes on Fraser, as there are vast stretches of pristine beach to escape the crowds.
However, the Eurong Beach resort is quite popular, with locals and overseas visitors and being on
the East coast, close to everything. From now on, let the photos tell the storey.
