file= Kangaroo Island and Barossa Vineyards and Murray valley, May 2018 KangIsland.htm
Introduction The circumstances behind this trip are so incredible and unbelievable, that I will
just let the narrative and pictures do the talking. The trip commenced at the "Majestic Roof garden Hotel,
Adelaide, some 110 km from Cape Jarvis, the ferry terminal for the 40 minute trip to Kangaroo Island.
The return Ferry trip for a vehicle and 2 passengers was $392. We couldn't believe that the Ferry
services (run about every hour) were apparently booked out. Using my Nth Sea experience, we turned up
expecting a few "no shows" which was indeed the case.
Map of routes followed on the Island, about 130 km long by 60 km. high.
Ferry took 40 min, well equipped. Cars on perimeter, trucks and buses in the
middle. Well organised and efficient.
We stayed at the "Kangaroo Island Seafront", at Penneshaw, right on the water, with all facilities nearby,
including, Pub, meals, Ferry Terminal, fuel. Excellent resort, quiet and safe parking.
We had allowed for 2 full days + 2 part days to do all the touring and explorations we anticipated. Some
of the exhibits were closed….Raptors, penguins + some others, but an extra or 3rd full day is warranted.
On the 1st full day, we explored the Eastern half of the Island and on the second, drove to the South
Western tip to view the Sea Lions and Rock features, returning via a central road. The following photos
describe some of the features :-

After a few days (recommend at least 3) on Kangaroo Island, Christine was ready(and thirsty) to attack
the Barossa vineyards. The weather was overcast and drizzly, but it was some sort of festival, so most
of the venues and tastings were well attended. It was very pleasant driving thru the numerous vineyards,
even for an avowed BEER drinker Engineer.
Barossa Vineyards and Murray valley.
There were acres and acres of vineyards. I wonder how they pick the grapes ?
Better view than Vineyards, eh ? Murray river cruise or fun boats.
The MIGHTY Murray. The mighty Murray and Christine.
Back in Adelaide, nice views from Hotel window, overlooking St. Vincent Gulf. End of great trip.
